JAMES H. EGBERT

I want to personally welcome you to my online gallery and shop where you can buy a fine art photographic print to bring the beauty of nature into your home or office. I am a 4th generation Colorado Native and my deep roots have inspired me to tell the stories of the unique beauty of the natural landscape as I was originally inspired by the great Ansel Adams and his work.
I would like to announce that I have become an ARHAUS  Trade Partner.  Working with Interior Designers Nationwide.

I would never proclaim to be as good as or better than Ansel Adams, but, ironically, he and I share many things in common. Ansel and I share birthdates that are 61 years and one day apart.  Like Ansel, I was first a musician and that experience has lent itself to our approach to photography both in the camera and post-production work.  Most did not know it but Ansel Adams was open to all the technologies that have now become commonplace in photography such as Digital Editing and Digital Cameras because they expanded what was possible in the expression of the art of photography.  From there my path has taken me in different directions as I also have experience in video as a Photojournalist in broadcast news. I have seen how that discipline has affected my approach to still photography to try and convey a story in every photograph I make. Nature serves as both a canvas and a muse in my work, where landscapes transform into emotional landscapes. Through the interplay of light and shadow, I explore the delicate balance between serenity and chaos, revealing the stories that unfold in the natural world. Each scene, whether it be a sunset casting warm hues over rocky formations or the quiet stillness of a snowy expanse, invites viewers to pause and reflect.

I am drawn to the raw beauty of the environment, capturing moments that resonate with the human experience. The colors and textures I employ are not merely aesthetic choices; they embody the feelings of nostalgia, wonder, and introspection that arise when we connect with nature. Influenced by the poetry of the world around me, I aim to evoke a sense of belonging and contemplation, encouraging viewers to find their own narratives within the landscapes I present.

My approach is rooted in a deep appreciation for the subtleties of the natural world. I strive to convey the emotions that arise from these encounters, whether it’s the tranquility of dusk or the vibrant energy of a sunrise. Each piece is a reflection of my journey through these spaces, inviting others to join me in experiencing the profound beauty that surrounds us.

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHY AND HOW

With our busy lives, we often don't get the time to explore or even travel to the natural wilderness as genuinely as we would like, or connect to new places on a deeper level with the world around us. This is unfortunate as there are so many benefits that come from being in touch with nature. At Silver Branch Studios, we bring nature's beauty and healing power into your everyday life through fine art nature, and landscape photographic prints as large format wall art.

James H Egbert doesn't just take pictures; he is a dedicated storyteller. Whether it’s ethereal landscapes, candid wildlife portraits, or close-up photographs of wildflowers, the subject matter is always thoughtfully chosen and masterfully executed. This allows for a multi-dimensional experience, inviting viewers to dive deep into the worlds captured within the frames. Taking from his early influences by such masters as Ansel Adams, Alfred Stieglitz, and Ed Weston, James has made photographs that transport you from where you are and into the scene as it unfolded before him.

"When I'm ready to make a photograph, I think I quite obviously see in my minds eye something that is not literally there in the true meaning of the word. I'm interested in something which is built up from within, rather than just extracted from without." ~ Ansel Adams

Every print takes extraordinary attention to detail. The quality of work produced by James and his partnership with Miller's Professional Imaging Lab is nothing short of breathtaking. Each shot is composed with meticulous attention to detail, from the framing and focus to the lighting and subject matter. This ensures that each piece serves as a stunning testament to the beauty and complexity of its subject. Finally, once the photograph is put into the digital darkroom, James works to select the single frame that communicates exactly the story James had in mind by correcting for anything that did not translate in the camera due to the mechanical limitations of all cameras.

"In my mind's eye, I visualize how a particular... sight and feeling will appear on a print. If it excites me, there is a good chance it will make a good photograph. It is an intuitive sense, an ability that comes from a lot of practice." ~ Ansel Adams

The hallmark of Silver Branch Studios and the work of James H Egbert is the quality of materials used, and it is due in part to the partnership James has with Miller's Lab. Each photograph is printed on the highest quality, archival-grade paper or other specialty materials that ensure clarity of color and detail of the image's original splendor. The frames used are also of the finest quality, making sure that the art not only stands out but also stands the test of time.

"Image quality is not the product of a machine, but of the person who directs the machine, and there are no limits to imagination and expression." ~ Ansel Adams

James has always been a storyteller with a camera. From his childhood in the 60s and 70's he made a point of finding things of interest to focus on. Eventually, in his military career his hobby led him to reconsider is career going from a high-intensity and dangerous vocation into journalism as his work caught the eyes of others trained in the field. After his military career, James continued as a Photojournalist shooting for newspapers and magazines such as Outdoor Photographer and National Geographic Adventure. James has also self-published coffee table books and eventually began selling fine art Nature and Landscape Prints to corporate and private buyers around the country. James has even been honored to have is work proudly displayed in the Colorado State Capitol Building expressing his love of his home state.

"The photographer's most important and likewise most difficult task is not learning to manage his camera, or to develop, or to print. It is learning to see photographically — that is, learning to see his subject matter in terms of the capacities of his tools and processes so that he can instantaneously translate the elements and values in a scene before him into the photograph he wants to make." ~ Edward Weston

"In photography, there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality." ~ Alfred Stieglitz

"Portrait photography never had any charms for me, so I sought my subjects from the house-tops, and finally from the hill-tops and about the surrounding country; the taste strengthening as my successes became greater in proportion to the failures. "
