About Silver Branch Studios

The Art of Nature, the Spirit of the West
Silver Branch Studios was founded by James H. Egbert, a Colorado native from a Colorado pioneer family whose roots run deep in the rugged beauty of the West. Inspired by the grandeur of his home state and the timeless work of master photographer Ansel Adams, James developed a passion for capturing the soul of the natural world — its light, texture, and quiet strength.
Over the years, his creative path has been shaped by both classic influences and modern visionaries, including several contemporary photographers he’s had the privilege of working alongside. Each experience — from those early inspirations to shared moments in the field — has helped refine his distinctive style of fine art nature and landscape photography.
Before founding Silver Branch Studios, James served proudly as a U.S. Navy Veteran, traveling across seven continents and witnessing many of the world’s natural wonders firsthand. His time in service deepened his appreciation for the planet’s diversity and the fragile beauty that connects us all.
After retiring from military life in 2006, James continued to tell visual stories — this time as a broadcast news photojournalist, documenting people, places, and events with honesty and respect. Today, he has come full circle, returning to his first love: capturing the awe-inspiring landscapes of the American West and Southwest through fine art photography.
Through Silver Branch Studios, James brings the tranquility, drama, and emotional power of the outdoors into homes, offices, and healing environments. Each image is more than a photograph — it’s an invitation to pause, breathe, and reconnect with nature’s quiet brilliance.
The Mental and Physical Benefits of Bringing Nature Photography Into Your Space
Silver Branch Studios
Sure, there’s nothing like a weekend in the mountains or a quiet morning by the lake — but who says you have to pack a bag (or fight off mosquitoes) to feel the calm and wonder of nature? At Silver Branch Studios, I create fine art landscape photography that brings the beauty of the outdoors directly into your home, office, or healing space — no hiking boots required.
Imagine the serenity of a misty forest, the warmth of sunlight through golden leaves, or the quiet majesty of snow-capped peaks — all captured in timeless prints that transform your walls into a personal escape. Rain or shine, your own window into nature is always open.
Art That Heals and Inspires
Science actually backs up what we intuitively feel — spending time with nature, even in photographic form, improves our mood, focus, and overall well-being. Studies show that simply looking at images of natural scenes can lower stress, ease anxiety, and boost creativity and productivity.
One famous study from the 1980s found that hospital patients recovering from surgery healed faster and experienced less pain when their rooms had a view of trees rather than a brick wall. The takeaway? Nature doesn’t just soothe the soul — it literally helps us heal.
A Natural Boost for Modern Spaces
Whether you’re designing a calming home, a welcoming office, or a restorative environment for clients and patients, fine art nature photography can completely transform the energy of a room. Our brains respond to these scenes with the same sense of peace and renewal we feel when we’re actually outdoors.
From the rugged peaks of Colorado to the ethereal light over Iceland’s black sand beaches, every Silver Branch Studiosprint captures a moment of connection — a reminder that beauty, balance, and calm are never far away.
When you can’t step outside, surround yourself with the next best thing.
Bring nature home.
"The photographer's most important and likewise most difficult task is not learning to manage his camera, or to develop, or to print. It is learning to see photographically — that is, learning to see his subject matter in terms of the capacities of his tools and processes so that he can instantaneously translate the elements and values in a scene before him into the photograph he wants to make." ~ Edward Weston
"In photography, there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality." ~ Alfred Stieglitz

"Portrait photography never had any charms for me, so I sought my subjects from the house-tops, and finally from the hill-tops and about the surrounding country; the taste strengthening as my successes became greater in proportion to the failures. "
